In his May 30, 2002 SEGD presentation, JD Albert reviewed the history of information displays and the pros and cons of various technologies for displaying location-specific and/or user-specific information in the environment. By combining the low-cost, low-power, reproducibility, and physical flexibility advantages of paper with the programmability and connectivity of digital displays, Albert's E-ink technology opens the door to vast new opportunities to directly embed programmable, information-rich surfaces on any object or in any environment. More information about these potentialities may be found at the corporate E-ink website.
JD Albert is a co-founder of E-Ink and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He has been working on electronic ink for five years. His interests include product design, sustainable design, and manufacturing.
